Help Stop Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with COVE! You can make a difference by donating your time and talents to help overcome violence in our communities. Volunteers and Interns provide much-needed support to help COVE provide vital services to survivors. There are many ways to get involved, whether you are interested in working directly with survivors, supporting our office staff, attending community resource events, or helping out at COVE fundraisers.

Please email your completed application to volunteer@callcove.com or send it to our Main Office at 906 E. Ludington Ave. Volunteers must undergo extensive background checks and training to volunteer on-site and/or work directly with survivors. For more information, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (231) 843-2541 x 1126.

TRAINING

Most of our volunteer positions require some level of training, whether it’s individual training to learn more about your role within our organization or the full 40-hour Volunteer Training to learn about the complex dynamics of domestic and sexual violence. COVE has two umbrella groups of volunteers: Direct Services and Non-Direct Services Volunteers. Event volunteers and general office support volunteers are not required to undergo training. We are currently providing all training virtually until it is safe for us to meet in-person. For more information about training dates, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

Direct service volunteers must undergo 40 hours of volunteer training to learn about the complex dynamics of domestic and sexual violence. Training ensures that all individuals working with survivors are providing the same level of empathy, care, and nonjudgmental support.

Non-Direct Service volunteers include individuals and groups that want to provide support to our events and fundraisers or our offices without working directly with survivors. This can also include community groups who want to develop a community service project that helps our agency. COVE can also work with volunteers who are completing community service obligations.

Beginning in June, quarterly training will be held for Volunteers.  Training dates are Thursday evenings 5:30-7:30 pm and Saturday 10 am - 4 pm.
